The Politecnico di Milano ranks second among Italian universities for the distribution of 5×1000 Irpef contributions: over 600,000 euros from 7,341 donors in 2023 (the most recent data released by the Italian Revenue Agency).
For many years now, the University has chosen to allocate the majority of this contribution to scientific research with a high social impact: projects that have a concrete and short-term effect on improving the quality of life in the areas where they are developed. 4o

In this too, the Politecnico di Milano is a pioneer: it has a social engagement and responsibility program that promotes a new way of building and applying academic knowledge and excellence. The first initiative of its kind in Italy, it aims to bring the university into close contact with the dynamics of societal change, expanding its mission to include social issues and needs that arise from local and global communities. PILOT EXPERIENCES IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH REALITY, OUTSIDE ACADEMIC WALLS
Each year, through the Polisocial Award contest, the University selects several high social impact research projects and supports them in the implementation phase of “pilot experiences” with a tangible impact.
This programme promotes the involvement of external collaborators and partners, such as companies and institutions, to network; it stimulates multidisciplinary collaboration and synergies between different departments and research groups, and supports them with a view to sustainability over time; it also aims to give room to young researchers and cultivate an ethical approach to academic work, which enhances the social impact of Politecnico expertise.
