{"id":24839,"date":"2021-07-26T14:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-26T12:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/?p=24839"},"modified":"2022-11-23T09:50:42","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T08:50:42","slug":"artery-robot-e-realta-aumentata-nel-futuro-degli-interventi-cardiovascolari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/en\/2021\/07\/26\/artery-robot-e-realta-aumentata-nel-futuro-degli-interventi-cardiovascolari\/","title":{"rendered":"ARTHERY: robots and augmented reality are the future of cardiovascular interventions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Politecnico di Milano, in collaboration with Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, created <strong> ARTERY <\/strong> (Autonomous Robotics for Transcatheter dEliveRy sYstems), an H2020 project <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/project\/id\/101017140\/it\" target=\" _ self \" rel=\" noreferrer noopener \"> funded by the European Commission <\/a> which deals with research in the field of structural heart diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">ARTERY's goal is to create a <strong> robotic platform <\/strong> that exploits artificial intelligence and augmented reality to implement the non-invasive treatment of heart valve diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HOW DOES ARTERY WORKS?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ARTERY project aims to develop new guidance and monitoring systems and systems capable of training and supporting operators, making interventions safer and more effective for the patient and eliminating the use of X-rays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Trained doctors will be able, thanks to the use of virtual reality, to <strong> experience cardiovascular interventions in simulation, <\/strong> thus significantly reducing stress and improving the approach to interventions. In this way the doctor does not learn directly on the patient but on the simulator, in safety and eliminating the risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"887\" src=\"http:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Home-bassa-1800-X-1560-5-1024x887.jpg\" alt=\"artery home\" class=\"wp-image-24842\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Home-bassa-1800-X-1560-5-1024x887.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Home-bassa-1800-X-1560-5-300x260.jpg 300w, https:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Home-bassa-1800-X-1560-5-768x666.jpg 768w, https:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Home-bassa-1800-X-1560-5-1536x1331.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/alumni.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Home-bassa-1800-X-1560-5.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Credits: tecnicaospedaliera.it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">ARTERY involves the creation of a robotic platform that will simplify percutaneous procedures (i.e. procedures in which diseased structures are repaired or replaced by implanting one or more devices into the heart via a catheter inserted from a small peripheral access) and which will eliminate the use of intra-operative X-rays; <strong> the system will also be semi-autonomous <\/strong> and the decisions, which will be guided by artificial intelligence, will always be shared and agreed with the human operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">\"<em>Artery project will introduce two major innovations that will have an important impact on cardiac operations: <\/em> - says Emiliano Votta, Alumnus and associate professor at the Politecnico di Milano - <em> the remote control of robots through artificial intelligence and augmented reality, and therefore the ability to manage complex operations intuitively and potentially remotely, and the use of sensorized catheters, which will allow more control and precision in the movements of the catheter inside the patient's body.
